3/3/06 - Updates to website
The whole website as been rewritten from scratch and the screen captures retaken. This means that the pages should download up to 8x faster.
The main update to the site is the database page; this will give more up to date and accurate information about GamebaseST as it reads directly from the database file. From here you can search for games and see what extras we already have, this should make it easier for people to contribute to the project.
27/11/05 - New Host for GamebaseST v1.2b
I am glad to report that we have finally have a new host for the latest public release of GamebaseST, I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank Unseenmenace for hosting the files on his website. Please do not be fooled by the beta status, it does not mean it Iis unstable in any way, it is just missing the CD install option which we had hoped would be ready in time. This in effect means you will need to tell GamebaseST where the files are, which only takes a couple of minutes.
Another reason for the beta status is that we are hoping to get get some feedback, not just on the interface itself but also on the games, have we used the best version? Can suggest and provide alternative versions? Are there music files or others files that we have missed for the games?
Are ultimate goal is to have the best versions of every single Atari ST game available from a single interface. It also means that all games are being brought together for the first time in a single archive, not scattered on menus or other collections. Please help us to make it even better by giving us some feedback!
4/3/05 - CD Install & Website Redesigned
The backbone of GamebaseST are the GEMUS scripts developed by Rob, these control how an emulator runs each game using the best possible configuration. Rob continues to work on the scripts to refine and add even more new features. Also being worked on is a CD install program for GamebaseST. This will install GamebaseST with the correct paths and will make the whole installation process an absolute breeze!
In preparation for the release of v1.2 of GamebaseST the website has had a total makeover (you may have noticed). It’s not the best looking site in the world and certainly not the best coded, but we think it will do the job. In any case it will be further developed along with the program it was created for! We are always on lookout for someone to help out with the website, if you think you can then please drop us line!
Some other pieces of information that you may be interested in:
GamebaseST's uses only one game per disk, this has meant re-authoring a large amount of games for the collection, a game on a menu disk transferred to its own disk for example. We also unpack games (were possible) to get the cleanest image possible. If fact, in some cases when a game needs to be unpacked it takes longer to start under emulation, which gives us another reason to unpack them. We do not take anything away from the original crackers who are credited in GamebaseST.
The hard drive games in GamebaseST run directly from the front-end just like a floppy game would. We went down this route because of ridiculous disk swapping in some games. For example, Cruise for a Corpse and Monkey Island both benefit highly without the dreaded 'Please insert disk x'!
Some Amiga boxscans had someone made their way into the last release of GamebaseST, these have been weeded out and we are confident the all the boxscans in GamebaseST are now from Atari ST releases. All boxscans have also been formatted to a certain specification to give a more consistent feel.
We have made a large effort on documentation for games for the next release, and we have only used documentation from Atari ST disk menus. There are some exceptions to this however, for example, there are some 30 manuals in the PDF format which just happen to be
